Changes the forfeiture amount per violation from $5,000 to $2,500 for railroad violations regarding railroad highway crossings, removing obstructive vegetation, and maintaining and improving railroad crossings at grade.
Changes the forfeiture amount from $5,000 to $2,500 for railroad failure after due notice to comply with an official PUCO order, direction, or requirement regarding railroad highway crossings, obstructive vegetation, and railroad crossings at grade.
Requires the PUCO staff, if a complaint is filed regarding a railroad's failure to repair or maintain railroad highway crossings, or failure to remove obstructive vegetation, to contact the railroad, and permits the staff and railroad to meet to review the complaint.
Removes the provision allowing the PUCO to specify a different time period in which a railroad must comply with local government's 30-day notice regarding the repair or maintenance of a railroad highway crossing or 10-day notice to remove obstructive vegetation.
Requires compliance within 45 calendar days after a railroad receives a PUCO order requiring the repair or maintenance of railroad highway crossings.
