A BILL
To enact section 3301.41 of the Revised Code to require the Department of Education to waive fees for certain Ohio residents taking the GED test.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1.  That section 3301.41 of the Revised Code be enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 3301.41. (A) As used in this section, "GED test" means the test of general educational development published by the American council on education, as required for issuance of a high school equivalence diploma by the state board of education.
(B) The department of education shall waive the application and test fee for the GED test for each applicant who meets the following conditions:
(1) The applicant is a resident of the state.
(2) The applicant attained on the official practice GED test administered through a public or private nonprofit adult education program at least the score or scores prescribed by rule of the state board for purposes of this section.
(3) The applicant's practice GED test scores are certified to the department by the director of a public or private nonprofit adult education program.
(C) The state board shall prescribe by rule adopted in accordance with Chapter 119. of the Revised Code a score or scores that an applicant shall attain on the practice GED test for purposes of the fee waiver required under this section.
