A BILL
To establish a moratorium until January 1, 2015, on
the disposal by injection into an underground
formation of brine and other waste substances
associated with the exploration or development of
oil and gas resources.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. Notwithstanding Chapter 1509. of the Revised Code
or any other provision of the Revised Code, on and after the
effective date of this act and through December 31, 2014, no
person shall dispose of brine or other waste substances associated
with the exploration or development of oil and gas resources by
injection into an underground formation. The Chief of the Division
of Oil and Gas Resources Management in the Department of Natural
Resources shall take any actions that are necessary in order to
implement this act, including adopting rules in accordance with
Chapter 119. of the Revised Code.
