A BILL
To revise the current academic performance ratings
system for public schools with a system under
which districts and schools are assigned letter
grades.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. It is the General Assembly's intent that by
December 31, 2012, sections of the Revised Code be amended,
enacted, or repealed to revise the current academic performance
rating system for school districts, individual buildings of
districts, community schools, and STEM schools and to implement a
rating system using letter grades, thereby improving the quality
of education outcomes for all students and to provide a clearer
indication of how schools and districts are performing. The system
shall be designed to show how schools and districts are closing
achievement gaps, providing all students with academic growth,
encouraging high graduation rates, improving dropout recovery and
prevention, and providing student achievement benchmarks for
annual measureable objectives applicable to student subgroups as
defined in division (C)(3) of section 3302.03 of the Revised Code,
and shall include measures of college and career-readiness.
