A BILL
To enact section 1509.80 of the Revised Code to
establish the Governor's Award for Environmental
Stewardship to be awarded annually to the company
or person involved in the oil and gas industry
that best represented wise environmental
stewardship during the previous one-year period.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That section 1509.80 of the Revised Code be
enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 1509.80. (A) The director of natural resources shall
establish the governor's award for environmental stewardship. The
award shall be presented annually to the owner or other person
involved in the oil and gas industry that best represented wise
environmental stewardship during the previous one-year period.
(B) The director shall adopt rules in accordance with Chapter
119. of the Revised Code that establish all of the following:
(1) Procedures for the nomination of owners or other persons
for the award. The rules shall allow nominations to be made by
members of the general assembly, owners and other persons
operating in the oil and gas industry, and private citizens. The
rules shall allow a company to nominate itself or a person to
nominate the person.
(2) Procedures for selecting the annual winner of the award.
The rules shall require the director to appoint a committee for
purposes of selecting the annual winner.
(3) Procedures for selecting a design for a plaque or other
commemorative item for presentation to the annual winner of the
award;
(4) Any other procedures necessary for the implementation of
this section.
(C) Annually, on a date selected by the director in
consultation with the governor, the governor shall present the
award established under this section.
