A BILL
To enact section 4731.45 of the Revised Code to require a physician interpreting a mammogram who determines that the patient has dense breast tissue to specify this in the mammography report sent to the patient.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That section 4731.45 of the Revised Code be enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 4731.45. As used in this section, "physician" means an individual authorized by this chapter to practice medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery.
A physician interpreting a mammogram shall determine based on the breast imaging reporting and data system established by the American college of radiology whether the patient has dense breast tissue. If so, the physician shall include the following in the report or summary sent to the patient pursuant to 21 C.F.R. 900.12:
"Because your mammogram demonstrates that you have dense breast tissue, which could hide small abnormalities, you might benefit from supplementary screening tests, depending on your individual risk factors. If you specified a physician to receive the report of your mammography results, the report has been sent to your physician's office. Contact your physician if you have any questions or concerns about dense breast tissue or your mammography results."
