A BILL
To enact section 3345.43 of the Revised Code to enact
the "Respect Your Date Act" to require each state
institution of higher education to adopt a policy
regarding dating violence and rape on campus.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That section 3345.43 of the Revised Code be
enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 3345.43. (A) Each state institution of higher
education, as defined in section 3345.011 of the Revised Code,
shall adopt a policy regarding incidents of dating violence and
rape on campus. The policy shall include the procedure for
reporting such incidents and the institutional plan for
investigating and responding to such incidents. The policy also
shall describe the consequences for committing an incident of
dating violence or rape on campus, including the institutional
disciplinary proceedings, the referral of the case for
prosecution, and the possible penalties that may be imposed.
(B) Each state institution of higher education annually shall
provide a copy of the policy adopted pursuant to division (A) of
this section to each student enrolled in that institution. Upon
receipt, each student shall sign an acknowledgement of receipt of
a copy of the policy.
Section 2. This act shall be known as the "Respect Your Date
Act."
