A BILL
To increase the school year to two hundred twenty
days.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. (A) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in
the Revised Code, for the 2015-2016 school year and for each
school year thereafter, the school year for each public school and
each chartered nonpublic school shall consist of at least two
hundred twenty days or the equivalent number of hours as follows:
(1) Five hundred fifty hours in the case of students in
kindergarten, unless such students are provided all-day
kindergarten, as defined in section 3321.05 of the Revised Code,
in which case the students shall be in attendance for one thousand
one hundred hours;
(2) One thousand one hundred hours for students in grades one
through six; and
(3) One thousand two hundred ten hours in grades seven
through twelve.
(B) The State Board of Education shall take the necessary
steps to adopt rules and procedures to comport with the
requirements of this section.
(C) It is the intent of the General Assembly to enact
separate legislation to amend the appropriate provisions of the
Revised Code to comport with the requirements of this section.
