A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To memorialize the United States Postal Service to issue a commemorative United States postage stamp honoring America's coal miners.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE SENATE CONCURRING):

WHEREAS, Ohio has a rich coal mining history dating back to 1800. Until the time of World War I, coal mining in the state was conducted almost exclusively underground and largely by manual labor; and

WHEREAS, Over 86% of the electricity generated in Ohio is coal-derived. Our entire nation relies on coal to support its energy needs; and

WHEREAS, Our nation owes coal miners a great deal more than can ever be repaid for the difficult and dangerous job that they perform so that our nation can have the fuel it needs to operate industries and to heat homes; and

WHEREAS, It would be proper and fitting for our nation to recognize coal miners, both past and present, for their contributions to this nation and for their tremendous sacrifices; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, memorializes the United States Postal Service to issue a postage stamp honoring America's coal miners, recognizing the dangerous job that they perform and the significance of their contributions to the growth and development of this nation, and illustrating the rich history of this country for the benefit of schoolchildren, stamp collectors, educators, and the public; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the United States Postal Service, to the United States Postmaster General, to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee of the United States Postal Service, to the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, to the President Pro Tempore and Secretary of the United States Senate, to the members of the Ohio Congressional delegation, and to the news media of Ohio.
