Honoring LeBron James as the NBA's Most Valuable Player for 2008-2009.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:


       WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to LeBron James on being presented with the Maurice Podoloff Trophy and being named the 2008-2009 MVP for the National Basketball Association; and

       WHEREAS, LeBron James has conscientiously applied himself to the quest for excellence as an athlete, and as a result, he has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week seven times, Player of the Month four times, an Eastern Conference All-Star starter five times, and most recently NBA MVP, the youngest player to be recognized with this esteemed accolade since 1979. As a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, he has been instrumental in the team's outstanding performance, leading the squad to an NBA and franchise-best 66-16 record this season. A tenacious competitor, he could always be counted on to shine, and understandably, the strength, stamina, and skill that he has exhibited have earned him many admirers; and

       WHEREAS, Basketball requires exceptional agility, power, and natural ability, and LeBron James is to be commended for his commitment to this demanding activity. In his journey to attain his athletic goals, and in all aspects of his life, he has consistently demonstrated the outstanding qualities of a true champion; and

       WHEREAS, Time and again, LeBron James has risen to the occasion, maintaining his morale, composure, and good sportsmanship, and he has gained the respect of even his most determined rivals. Clearly, his involvement in sports has enabled him to learn much about dedication, self-discipline, and leadership, and in the process, his exceptional prowess has made his family and friends very proud; therefore be it

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate LeBron James for outstanding achievement and extend best wishes for the future; and be it further

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to LeBron James.
