Representative Mallory 

Honoring Kim Fender as the 2009 Ohio Librarian of the Year.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:


       WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Kim Fender on being named the 2009 Librarian of the Year by the Ohio Library Council; and

       WHEREAS, OLC's Librarian of the Year Award honors a librarian whose local and state accomplishments have positively impacted the library profession and library service to the community, and this prestigious distinction is a fitting tribute to Kim Fender. Active with the OLC Government Relations Committee and the Ohio Ready to Read project, she has served as the executive director of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County since 1999, and under her guidance, the library's circulation has steadily increased, the main library has been reorganized, two branches have merged, services for teens have been expanded, staff communication and management skills have been improved, several facilities have been reconstructed, and the library has been ranked in the top ten nationally on Hennen's American Public Library Ratings. In addition, she has spearheaded the digitizing of library collections and has been active with the Ohio Public Library Information Network board and several local organizations; and

       WHEREAS, The recipient of various honors and awards for her work, Kim Fender is truly a remarkable individual, for she has combined civic concern and commitment with the utmost professionalism to become a dynamic leader in her field. She has distinguished herself as a conscientious and responsible Ohioan, and we are certain that she will continue to display the same unwavering dedication to service and achievement for which she has become known; and

       WHEREAS, Willingly giving of her time, energy, and abilities far beyond what was required or expected, Kim Fender has striven to better the world around her. Through her tremendous contributions, she has earned the respect and esteem of all who know her, and she is deserving of high praise. We are proud to note that it is through the unceasing efforts of people such as she that the State of Ohio continues to prosper and remains a pleasant place in which to live; therefore be it

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Kim Fender on her statewide accolade and salute her as one of Ohio's finest citizens; and be it further

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Kim Fender.
