A RESOLUTION
Honoring Miami University
on its Bicentennial.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Miami University on the auspicious occasion of its Two Hundredth Anniversary, celebrated with a Charter Day event, February 17, 2009; and |
| WHEREAS, Recognition of this prestigious milestone is a fitting tribute to Miami University, for throughout the past two centuries, it has played a vital role in preparing students to meet the challenges of the future. Chartered on February 17, 1809, and first opening its doors to twenty students in 1824, Miami is the tenth oldest public institution of higher learning in the country, and today it boasts more than 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students at five locations. With an unwavering commitment to educational excellence, the faculty, staff, and administration of the college have worked diligently to offer scholars a well-balanced liberal arts curriculum that seeks to develop their academic and practical skills, and they have earned the gratitude and respect of students, parents, and the community alike; and |
| WHEREAS, Colleges and universities provide pupils with much more than the basic educational skills, and we are certain that the instructors and administrators of Miami University will maintain their dedication to helping students become capable, well-rounded individuals. As they take part in this Charter Day Celebration, the school's students, staff, and alumni can be justly proud of this fine institution; and |
| WHEREAS, Education is vital to our nation's continued economic and social well-being, and as the need for global learning and understanding increases, so do the demands placed upon our system of education. Miami University has consistently and effectively met these demands, and all those associated with the college are deserving of high praise; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Miami University on its Two Hundredth Anniversary and extend best wishes for ongoing success; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Miami University |
