WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Staff Sergeant Jason E. Burkholder on the sorrowful occasion of his death; and

WHEREAS, Although there are no words to ease the sorrow now felt, surely there is solace in the remembrance of having known such an outstanding individual. A 2000 graduate of Elida High School, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2000, the Ohio National Guard in 2004, and the Illinois Army National Guard in 2008, and he was serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom when he was killed in the line of duty. His courage and determination were admirable, and his willingness to serve his country, regardless of his own safety and without objection, proved him to be a model soldier and an exceptional American citizen; and

WHEREAS, Jason Burkholder selflessly used his talents to the benefit of others, and the laurels of his life stand as a tribute not only to him but also to those he left behind. The noble traditions of our country's service men and women are an important chapter of American history, and the family and friends of Jason Burkholder can be proud of the sacrifices this humble hero made to ensure freedom and justice for all people; and

WHEREAS, Although the void his death has created can never be filled, Jason Burkholder will be remembered as a positive, hard-working individual who contributed immeasurably to the world around him. It is certain that the world is a richer place for his having been in it, and he will be sorely missed; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, mourn the loss and salute the memory of a truly honorable individual, Staff Sergeant Jason E. Burkholder; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the family of Staff Sergeant Jason E. Burkholder
