A RESOLUTION
Honoring John Merkel
as a 2010 winner of the MLK Statewide Oratorical Contest.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to John Merkel on placing first in the junior division at the Eleventh Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Statewide Oratorical Contest; and |
| WHEREAS, John Merkel is deserving of praise for winning first place in the junior division at the 2010 MLK Statewide Oratorical Contest. His impressive credentials reveal a number of admirable strengths, and his exceptional presentation, entitled "Wake Up People, Wake Up," clearly reflects his commitment to excellence. An eighth-grade student at Lima North Middle School, he has displayed leadership ability and a capacity for diligence that should be equal to even the most difficult tasks that lie ahead; and |
| WHEREAS, John Merkel has proven himself to be a mature young individual of exceptional intelligence and determination, and he has demonstrated the confidence and enthusiasm of a true competitor. The knowledge that he has gained through his participation in the MLK Statewide Oratorical Contest is certain to be of benefit to him as he continues to pursue his studies; and

| WHEREAS, John Merkel's accomplishments are a justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection not only on him but also on his family, his school, his teachers, and his community. In many areas of endeavor, he has set a superb example for others to follow; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud John Merkel for outstanding achievement and salute him as a fine young Ohioan; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to John Merkel. |
