Recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month in Ohio,
May 2010.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize May 2010 as Mental Health Awareness Month in Ohio; and |
WHEREAS, Approximately 26 percent of American adults, or more than 57.7 million people, suffers from diagnosable mental disorders every year. Although those with mental illnesses can recover, an estimated two-thirds of them are not receiving the help they need, and the cost of untreated and mistreated mental illnesses and addictive disorders to American businesses, governments, and families has grown to $113 billion annually; and |
WHEREAS, Mental health is an important ongoing issue in our society, affecting persons regardless of age, race, religion, sex, education, or social or economic standing, and it is essential to overall physical health and emotional well-being. Community-based mental health services that respond to individual and family needs are cost effective and beneficial to consumers and the community, and they provide the necessary resources to foster the growth and health of area citizens; and |
WHEREAS, Officially recognized by Congress since 1949 and declared via bill, Mental Health Awareness Month raises awareness and understanding of mental health and illness and the need for appropriate and accessible services for all those affected by mental illness; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize May 2010 as Mental Health Awareness Month in Ohio and urge all citizens to recommit to increasing awareness and understanding of mental health; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio. |
