A RESOLUTION
Representatives Hottinger,
Ruhl, Dodd
To recognize Utica, the home of Velvet Ice Cream, as
the Ice Cream Capital of Ohio.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, Ice cream has been a favorite dessert for Ohioans
for decades. Every possible flavor has been made and tasted; and |
WHEREAS, Ohio has one of the best ice cream manufacturers in
the world in Utica, the Velvet Ice Cream Company. Velvet has been
producing quality ice cream in Utica since its founding in 1914;
and |
WHEREAS, Velvet has more than 500 flavors and produces one of
the most popular vanilla ice creams in the country. Ye Olde Mill,
an old gristmill that houses the Velvet factory and headquarters,
a restaurant, and an ice cream museum, attracts more than 150,000
visitors each year; and |
WHEREAS, For thirty-five years, during each Memorial Day
weekend, Velvet has sponsored and hosted the Ohio Old Fashioned
Ice Cream Festival, a fundraiser for local charity that includes
such activities as an ice cream eating contest and balloon toss;
now therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of
Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of the State of
Ohio, recognize Utica, the home of Velvet Ice Cream, as the Ice
Cream Capital of Ohio; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives send
duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the Velvet Ice
Cream Company and the news media of Ohio. |
