A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Ohio Chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions as it observes Lights for Life Day.

       WHEREAS,  The members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to the Ohio Chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions as it observes Lights for Life Day, November 16, 2009; and

       WHEREAS,  According to the National Institute for Highway Safety, in 2005, the latest year for which data are available, motor vehicle crashes were the leading cause of death among 13- to 19-year-old males and females in the United States; and

       WHEREAS,  Teens' inexperience, distraction, and recklessness on the road factor into the deadly statistics. Many people, especially teenagers, do not realize the consequences of driving while distracted, and education is needed in order for teenagers to become more aware of the dangers they face while driving; and

       WHEREAS,  As the Ohio Chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions observes Lights for Life Day, to be held November 16, 2009, we urge all Ohioans to mark this event by driving with their headlights illuminated, as a pledge to be a safe driver. Raising awareness about the tragedy of teen-driver car crashes will spark communication among teenagers, their parents, and civic leaders about the causes of and solutions to teen-driver car crashes and will encourage self-reflection by teen drivers; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend the Ohio Chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions on its support of Lights for Life Day; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Ohio Chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions and the news media of Ohio.
