Honoring the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal as a 2009 recipient of the National Medal for Museum and Library Service.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal on receiving a 2009 National Medal for Museum and Library Service from the Institute of Museum and Library Service; and |
WHEREAS, Opened in 1933, Union Terminal served as a major passenger and freight railroad hub until it closed in 1972, and after it was purchased by the City of Cincinnati in 1975, this magnificent Art Deco structure reopened in 1990 as the home of the Cincinnati Museum Center. Today, CMC is comprised of the Robert D. Lindner Family OMNIMAX Theater, the Cincinnati History Museum, the Museum of Natural History & Science, and the Duke Energy Children's Museum, and it also operates the Richard & Lucile Durrell Edge of Appalachia Preserve; and |
WHEREAS, The nation's highest honor for museums and libraries, the National Medal for Museum and Library Service is a fitting tribute to the Cincinnati Museum Center for its extraordinary civic, educational, economic, environmental, and social contributions. In addition to preserving the National Historic Landmark in which it resides, the center houses an impressive collection of artifacts, specimens, and archival materials, provides hands-on learning experiences for children of all ages, and offers relevant exhibits. Additionally, the agency's staff conduct a youth leadership development program and foster public-private partnerships for community outreach, and the edifice has become the most visited museum in the State of Ohio; and |
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Cincinnati Museum Center has enhanced the quality of life in our society, and through its generous contributions, it has earned the respect and gratitude of many. We are proud to note that it is through the unceasing efforts of institutions such as this that the State of Ohio continues to prosper and remains a pleasant place in which to live and work; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal for outstanding achievement and extend best wishes for the future; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal. |
