A RESOLUTION

Senators Sawyer, Cafaro, Grendell, Schuring, Wilson

Honoring Kent State University on its Centennial.
WHEREAS,  The members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to Kent State University on the auspicious occasion of its One Hundredth Anniversary; and

WHEREAS,  This is a very special celebration, and congratulations are in order as this vibrant and venerable institution marks a significant milestone. Established in 1910 by the Ohio General Assembly as a state normal school, the institution opened its doors in 1912, and it is one of the original four-corner universities for the State of Ohio. In 1929, the General Assembly officially made the institution a state college with the addition of a college of arts and sciences, and in accordance with another state bill passing in 1935, a school of business administration and graduate programs were added, providing Kent State with university status. Today, KSU is the third largest university in the state and the largest residential university in the region, and it provides a host of opportunities to countless students through its eight campuses by offering them outstanding curricula, instruction, and facilities; and

WHEREAS,  To their credit, Kent State University's expert faculty members and conscientious, dedicated administrators have always insisted upon exacting academic standards, and they merit praise for preparing people of all ages for fulfilling occupations and rewarding positions in our complex society. Enthusiastically acclaimed, the university has steadily grown in stature as an exciting hub of intellectual discovery and an indispensable scholastic center for the exchange of ideas and information; and

WHEREAS,  Kent State University can be depended upon to produce a sizable number of qualified leaders who are ready to assume key roles in a wide array of fields and professions, and it inspires confidence that it will tenaciously maintain its long tradition of academic excellence. During this landmark year, the administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni can take pride in their contributions to the school's proud heritage. Clearly, this fine institution of higher learning will thrive and flourish for many years to come; therefore be it

RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Kent State University on a century of exemplary education and extend best wishes for ongoing success; and be it further

RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Kent State University.

I, Vincent L. Keeran, hereby certify that the above is a true and correct copy of Senate Resolution No. 234, adopted by the Ohio Senate, May 19, 2010.
