A RESOLUTION
Honoring Dr. David C. Sweet on his retirement from Youngstown State University.

       WHEREAS,  The members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Dr. David C. Sweet on the memorable occasion of his retirement as president of Youngstown State University; and

       WHEREAS,  Throughout his distinguished career in the field of education, David Sweet has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to performing his duties and fulfilling his responsibilities with the utmost efficiency and competence. Previously serving in such roles as director of regional economic research at the Battelle Institute, a member of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, director of the Ohio Department of Development, and dean of the Cleveland State University Levin College of Urban Affairs, he became president of Youngstown State University in 2000, and under his astute guidance, the school has increased enrollment and student diversity, developed partnerships with school districts and community organizations, opened Youngstown Early College, expanded academic programs, reorganized its academic structure, spearheaded redevelopment plans and projects, and constructed the University Courtyard Apartments and the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center; and

       WHEREAS,  Always sincere and energetic in his approach to his work, David Sweet has displayed a genuine commitment to attaining his myriad goals in a skillful and professional manner, and he is deserving of high praise. Throughout his career, he has supported students and staff members in all of their endeavors and has helped to nurture within them a desire for excellence; and

       WHEREAS,  Giving of his time and abilities far beyond what was required or expected, David Sweet has earned the respect and gratitude of his colleagues, his community, and, most importantly, his students. As he retires, he has the satisfaction of knowing that he has provided a valuable service to the community, establishing a record of professional achievement that is worthy of emulation; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate Dr. David C. Sweet on his retirement and salute him as one of Ohio's finest educators; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Dr. David C. Sweet.
