S. R. No. 255

A RESOLUTION

Senators Goodman, Hughes

In memory of Jerry Ward.
WHEREAS,  The members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jerry Ward and extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS,  Although there are no words to ease the sadness now felt, surely there is solace in the remembrance of having been touched by such an outstanding person as Jerry Ward. An employee of Riverside Methodist Hospital since 1985, he was in his sixth term as a trustee for Blendon Township, and as a reserve officer for the Columbus Police Department, he was providing security for the 2010 Komen Columbus Race for the Cure when he collapsed in the line of duty. He led an exemplary life, manifesting those virtues we all seek to emulate; and

WHEREAS,  Giving generously of his energy and abilities, Jerry Ward displayed exceptional concern and insight and was tireless in his work to better the world around him. The warmth of his personality made a lasting impression on the people whose lives he touched, and the love, compassion, and understanding he so readily extended to others will long remain in the hearts and minds of his friends and family, including his wife, Liz, and his son, Aaron; and

WHEREAS,  At a time when many people are content to take a passive role in life, law enforcement officers often risk their own safety, and in fact their lives, to ensure the well-being of their fellow citizens. The devotion to duty that Jerry Ward showed in all of his endeavors earned him the genuine respect and gratitude of his colleagues and of the community he so capably served; therefore be it

RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, express a profound sense of loss and sincere regret at the death of Jerry Ward and, in so doing, pay tribute to the memory of this special man; and be it further

RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the family of Jerry Ward.

I, Vincent L. Keeran, hereby certify that the above is a true and correct copy of Senate Resolution No. 255, adopted by the Ohio Senate, June 10, 2010.
