S. R. No. 45
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Governor's Twenty-ninth Annual Holocaust Commemoration, April 28, 2009.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio recognize the Governor's Twenty-ninth Annual Holocaust Commemoration, April 28, 2009; and |
WHEREAS, Holocaust is the term given to the period of persecution and extermination of European Jews by National Socialist, or Nazi, Germany. Beginning with Adolph Hitler's rise to power in 1933, German Jews were gathered from their homes and sent to concentration camps, and following the outbreak of World War II, Hitler began the extermination of all European Jews in the countries that his armies conquered. By the fall of the Third Reich in 1945, more than twelve million people, including six million Jews, who were considered undesirable by the Nazi Regime had been systematically murdered in the Holocaust; and |
WHEREAS, This destruction of millions of human lives is an unequaled tragedy in human history--one that continues to haunt the conscience of the world. The atrocities that occurred as a result of Hitler's efforts to establish a master race stand as a frightening example of the inhumanity created when the unchecked fear and indifference of the general population are fueled by those in power. Indeed, we must remain vigilant so that events such as the Holocaust never occur again; and |
WHEREAS, In Ohio, April 28, 2009, has been designated to observe the Governor's Twenty-ninth Annual Holocaust Commemoration in memory of all those who perished at the hands of the Nazi Regime. This event serves as a time to reflect on and remember this brutal episode in history, for only by acknowledging the crimes of which mankind is capable can we work against prejudice and hatred to ensure a future of hope and peace; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize the Governor's Twenty-ninth Annual Holocaust Commemoration; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Ohio Jewish Communities Government Affairs Committee and to the news media of Ohio. |
I, Vincent L. Keeran, hereby certify that the above is a true
and correct copy of Senate Resolution No. 45, adopted by the Ohio Senate,
April 28, 2009. |
