A RESOLUTION
Honoring The University of Findlay men's basketball team on winning the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championship.
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize The University of Findlay men's basketball team as the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II National Champion; and |
| WHEREAS, The talented men's basketball team from The University of Findlay is to be heartily commended, for it has decisively earned this year's Division II National Championship by defeating the California State Polytechnic squad. The Oilers' 56-53 overtime victory over California State Polytechnic, which capped a 36-0 season, reflects an extraordinary collective effort by a gifted group of athletes. Without exception, they devoted countless hours to training and practice in order to ensure peak conditioning, and clearly, this demanding regimen has paid handsome dividends; and |
| WHEREAS, To their credit, Coach Ron Niekamp and his assistants have guided The University of Findlay men's basketball team with unwavering expertise and encouragement, and they merit enthusiastic praise for coaxing admirable performances out of their players in each competitive outing. Despite sometimes grueling pressure, the Oilers have consistently maintained their composure and morale, exhibiting strength, speed, stamina, and agility in every challenging encounter. Time and again, they have risen to the occasion, amply demonstrating their unflagging determination, and their impressive maturity and finesse have gained them widespread respect, even among their most formidable rivals; and |
| WHEREAS, By weathering a rigorous schedule and prevailing over a host of adversaries, the members of The University of Findlay men's basketball team have learned much about dedication, discipline, leadership, and perseverance. Their victory is a measure of their commitment to the sport, and their indomitable spirit has made their families, friends, and coaches extremely proud. This triumph attests to the staunch resolve of these young men, and it signifies the acquisition of valuable experience that is sure to benefit them in later life; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate The University of Findlay men's basketball team as the 2009 NCAA Division II National Champion and applaud all those who contributed to the success of this fine squad; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to The University of Findlay men's basketball team. |
