A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION | To honor and commemorate veterans of the Vietnam War
who served during the Mayaguez incident and the
subsequent battle on Koh Tang Island that
commenced on May 12, 1975.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE SENATE CONCURRING):
WHEREAS, United States Armed Forces served in Vietnam for a
period of twenty years; and |
WHEREAS, Over 8,744,000 members served in the United States
Armed Forces during the Vietnam War era; and |
WHEREAS, Over 58,000 United States service members, and over
3,000 Ohio service members, perished in the Vietnam War; and |
WHEREAS, Over 300,000 United States service members were
wounded in the Vietnam War; and |
WHEREAS, Efforts to recover those missing in action continue;
and |
WHEREAS, Although the last American combat soldiers left
South Vietnam in March 1973, military advisors and Marines
remained to protect U.S. installations; and |
WHEREAS, On May 12, 1975, less than two weeks after the Fall
of Saigon, the Khmer Rouge seized the Mayaguez, an American
container ship; and |
WHEREAS, United States Armed Forces commenced a rescue
mission; and |
WHEREAS, The mission to liberate the Mayaguez, and the
subsequent battle on Koh Tang Island, is considered the last
combat mission in the Vietnam War; now therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 129th General Assembly
of the State of Ohio, honor and commemorate veterans of the
Vietnam War who served during the Mayaguez incident and the
subsequent battle on Koh Tang Island; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the
President of the United States, the Secretary of the United States
Department of Defense, the members of the Ohio Congressional
delegation, the Governor of Ohio, and the news media of Ohio. |
