A RESOLUTION
Speaker Batchelder Representatives Patmon, Pillich, Rosenberger, Heard
Honoring Arthur Saunders for his service with the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to Arthur Saunders as a member of the Tuskegee Airmen; and |
WHEREAS, The first African-American pilots to serve with the U.S. Army Air Corps, the Tuskegee Airmen demonstrated unwavering loyalty to our country during World War II, despite the racial segregation and intolerance that prevailed at the time. As a member of this esteemed unit, Arthur Saunders served as a pilot with the 477th Medium Bombardment Group, performing his duties and fulfilling his responsibilities with the utmost efficiency and competence, and he advanced to the rank of first lieutenant. In addition, he and the other Tuskegee Airmen were awarded a Congressional Gold Medal in 2007; and |
WHEREAS, A review of Arthur Saunders' credentials readily confirms how very worthy he is of special recognition. Among his endeavors, he has served as president of Saunders International, LLC, and as an architect and director of the Ralph Taylor Companies - Architecture and Civil Engineering, and he often speaks to students about the Tuskegee Airmen. He has certainly distinguished himself as a patriotic and hard-working American; and |
WHEREAS, It is imperative that we openly acknowledge our debt to those who bore our country's standard with courage, dignity, and decency through their military service. In every respect, Arthur Saunders performed in an exemplary manner, and his distinguished record of achievement is likely to impel others both to re-examine their own identities as American citizens and to reflect more conscientiously on our incomparable freedoms and solemn responsibilities; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud Arthur Saunders on his outstanding military service and honor him as a fine Ohioan; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Arthur Saunders. |
