A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the Honorable Yvette McGee Brown as the first female African American Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio.
       WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to the Honorable Yvette McGee Brown on becoming Ohio's first female African American justice of the Supreme Court; and

       WHEREAS,  Throughout her career in public service, Yvette McGee Brown has demonstrated an unwavering belief in the principles of democracy and has worked diligently to uphold the finest traditions of American politics and jurisprudence. A longtime public servant, she has held such posts as judge of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas and the Franklin County Domestic Relations and Juvenile Court, and she has also been active with the Center for Children and Family Advocacy at Nationwide Children's Hospital and Ohio University, The Ohio State University Medical Center, Fifth Third Bank of Central Ohio, M/I Homes, Inc., and the National Council of the OSU Moritz College of Law boards; and 

       WHEREAS,  A person earns the respect of their fellow citizens not by virtue of their years, but by the manner in which they conduct themselves and by the impact of their actions on society. Yvette McGee Brown's love for the Great State of Ohio and her sincere desire to serve the public to the best of her ability have distinguished her as a truly concerned and responsible citizen and an active and dedicated public servant. Also the recipient of such accolades as the Champion of Children and YWCA Woman of Achievement awards, she has earned the well-deserved esteem of all who know her for her sense of fairness and her commitment to excellence throughout her career; and

       WHEREAS,  Yvette McGee Brown has consistently maintained a high record of achievement, which has merited her the respect and admiration of colleagues. She has brought the full measure of her energy, intelligence, and public spirit to her duties and has effectively served the law and the State of Ohio. Indeed, her perseverance, compassion, and high personal standards stand as an inspiration to us all; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend the Honorable Yvette McGee Brown for outstanding service to the State of Ohio and salute her as one of Ohio's finest citizens; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Yvette McGee Brown.
