Recognizing October 2011as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Ohio.
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to take this opportunity to recognize October 2011 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Ohio; and |
| WHEREAS, Since 1989, the month of October has been designated by the United States Congress as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in an effort to increase public awareness and understanding of the issues surrounding domestic violence and abuse. Affecting men, women, and children of all races and socio-economic backgrounds, domestic violence has long-lasting repercussions affecting not only victims and their families but also communities and society as a whole; and |
| WHEREAS, Though the prevalence of domestic violence seems almost common in today's world, its occurrence does not alter the loss of dignity or lessen the pain victims face as a result of their offenders' violations against them. In order to prevent the escalation of abuse in the future, it is, indeed, vital for all concerned citizens to join in educating potential victims and offenders about the avoidance of this injustice and to develop a general consciousness regarding the issue of domestic violence; and |
| WHEREAS, On the occasion of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we urge all citizens to mark this observance by becoming aware of the tragedy of domestic violence and supporting those who are working toward its end; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Ohio, October 2011; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio. |
