A RESOLUTION

Honoring Michael G. Morris on his retirement from AEP.
       WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Michael G. Morris on the memorable occasion of his retirement as chairman and chief executive officer of American Electric Power; and

       WHEREAS,  Throughout his distinguished career, Michael Morris has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to performing his duties and fulfilling his responsibilities with the utmost efficiency and competence. Previously serving in various capacities with Commonwealth Associates, the ANR Pipeline and ANR Gathering companies, the Colorado Interstate Gas Company, CMS Marketing, Services, and Trading, Consumers Energy, and Northeast Utilities System, he became chairman and chief executive officer of American Electric Power in 2004, and during his tenure, he reorganized the field operation, developed a program to improve the performance of the least reliable energy distribution circuits, designed the world's largest integrated gasification combined cycle plant, secured federal stimulus funds, and established the American Electric Power Foundation, which has contributed to numerous worthy causes; and 

       WHEREAS,  A remarkable individual, Michael Morris has been active with such organizations as the Edison Electric Institute, the Institute of Nuclear Power, the U.S. Department of Energy Electricity Advisory Board, the National Governors Association Task Force on Electricity Infrastructure, the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation, the Ohio Business Roundtable, and the boards of directors of several companies. Always sincere and energetic in his approach to his work, he has given generously of his time and talents far beyond what was required or expected and has displayed a genuine commitment to improving the quality of life in our society; and

       WHEREAS,  The enthusiasm and expertise Michael Morris has shown in his endeavors have gained him the appreciation of all those with whom he has been associated. As he retires, he has the satisfaction of knowing that he has provided a valuable service to the State of Ohio and has established a record of personal and professional achievement that will stand as a hallmark for others to emulate; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate Michael G. Morris on his retirement and wish him the best in the years to come; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Michael G. Morris.
