H. R. No. 351  As Adopted

A RESOLUTION

  Speaker Batchelder

Recognizing the Governor's Thirty-second Annual Holocaust Commemoration, April 17, 2012.
WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio solemnly recognize the Governor's Thirty-second Annual Holocaust Commemoration; and

WHEREAS,  On this momentous occasion, when we ceremonially reflect upon the staggering events and life-shattering consequences of the Holocaust, we ponder one of humanity's most anguished collective memories, a malevolently orchestrated attempt at genocide that eradicated millions. Annual Yom Hashoa services and gatherings of this type invest a horrifying past with a riveting, poignant immediacy that prevents us from either forgetting or dismissing the incomparable suffering inflicted but a few decades ago; and

WHEREAS,  It is imperative that all of us offer sympathy and support to those who conscientiously assume the task of validating and bearing witness to those almost unimaginable Nazi atrocities, lest the world relax its vigilance and unwittingly invite their return. This day also prompts us to be mindful of the bravery and sacrifice of those who engineered and participated in heroically defiant endeavors such as the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, a rebellion that endures as a passionate example of organized resistance in the face of insurmountable odds; and

WHEREAS,  By depicting so vividly the torment of the persecuted and oppressed and paying tribute to the indomitable courage of the downtrodden with such compassion and eloquence, the Governor's Holocaust Commemoration inspirationally affirms life. Without question, this remarkable program blesses the entire community; therefore be it

RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, join the Ohio Jewish Communities in recognizing the Governor's Thirty-second Annual Holocaust Commemoration; and be it further

RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Governor's Office, to the Ohio Jewish Communities Government Affairs Committee, and to the news media of Ohio.
