A RESOLUTION



Representative Dovilla 

Honoring Richard W. Durst on his retirement from Baldwin-Wallace College.
       WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Richard W. Durst on his innumerable contributions as president of Baldwin-Wallace College; and

       WHEREAS,  As an educational administrator, Richard Durst has displayed a genuine dedication to attaining his myriad goals in a skillful and professional manner. Previously serving as a faculty member and dean of the School of Fine Arts at the University of Minnesota, the dean of the College of Fine and Performing Arts and special assistant to the chancellor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and dean of the College of Arts and Architecture and executive director of University Arts Services at the Pennsylvania State University, he was named president of Baldwin-Wallace College six years ago, and under his astute guidance, the college has completed numerous campus additions, including the Richard and Karen Durst Welcome Center, the Thomas Family Center for Science and Innovation, and the Center for Innovation and Growth, as well as successfully raised funds for new programs, construction, renovation, endowed funds for financial assistance to students, academic enhancements, and operating support. In addition, he is the executive director of the International Council of Fine Arts Deans and a past president of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, the International Organization of Designers, and Theatre Architects and Technicians; and 

       WHEREAS,  Throughout his career, Richard Durst has clearly shown the potential of each person to have a positive effect on the quality of life in our society. An international authority in theatre set design and the role of arts in academic training, his work has been featured in group exhibitions in Beijing and Seoul, and he was invited to design the world premiere of The Belltower for the Paris Opera. Without question, he has distinguished himself as a conscientious and responsible Ohioan, and he is truly deserving of high praise; and

       WHEREAS,  We are proud to note that it is through the unsurpassed efforts and deep commitment of diligent people like Richard Durst that the State of Ohio continues to grow and prosper. To his credit, he has striven to advocate for higher education to the best of his ability, and we applaud him on his fine work; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate Richard W. Durst on his retirement and extend best wishes for the years to come; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Richard W. Durst.
