A RESOLUTION
Honoring the U.S. Marine Corps on its Centennial in aviation.
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate the United States Marine Corps on the auspicious occasion of its One Hundredth Anniversary in aviation; and |
| WHEREAS, On May 8, 1911, Captain Washington Irving Chambers of the U.S. Navy requisitioned the first aircraft to be purchased for naval use, and on May 22, 1912, First Lieutenant Alfred A. Cunningham of the U.S. Marine Corps reported for flight training, marking the start of Marine aviation. The operation of aircraft from Navy ships was a revolutionary step that led to the inclusion of aviation in our nation's combined arms concept; and |
| WHEREAS, Recognition of this prestigious milestone is a fitting tribute to the Marine Corps for the contributions of Marine aviation to the defense of the United States. The incorporation of aircraft into the Marine Air-Ground Task Force has improved its efficiency and effectiveness, helping to make the Marine Corps a force that can take on enemies virtually anywhere in the world on short notice and with overwhelming firepower, and it continues to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability; and |
| WHEREAS, The heroic traditions of our armed forces are an important part of our nation's heritage. Marine aviators have provided a valuable service to our country and have established a record of achievement that will long stand as a hallmark worthy of emulation. They have certainly distinguished themselves as patriotic and hard-working Americans, and they are truly deserving of high praise; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend the United States Marine Corps on the One Hundredth Anniversary of Marine aviation; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the United States Marine Corps. |
