A RESOLUTION
Recognizing December 1, 2012, as World AIDS Day.
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize World AIDS Day, December 1, 2012; and |
| WHEREAS, According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than twenty-five million people worldwide died from the HIV/AIDS virus between 1981 and 2007 and there are more than one million people living with HIV, the virus which causes AIDS, in the United States, with one out of five not knowing they are infected. While in recent years the number of Americans diagnosed with AIDS has remained somewhat stable, every 9.5 minutes someone is infected with HIV in the United States, which means that approximately 50,000 individuals will become HIV positive this year; and |
| WHEREAS, Ohio ranks fourteenth highest among the fifty states with 17,129 AIDS cases reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through 2008. Proclaimed by President Barak Obama, World AIDS Day can undoubtedly be a benefit to those who suffer from this tragic and life-threatening disease, as well as to the families and friends of these individuals, and it offers help, hope, and encouragement in the fight against HIV/AIDS; and |
| WHEREAS, By participating in local events in support of World AIDS Day, Ohioans can give support and comfort to those affected by this disease. We urge all citizens to help raise awareness of this deadly disease and make a positive difference in the lives of others; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize December 1, 2012, as World AIDS Day; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio. |
