A RESOLUTION



  Speaker Batchelder  Representatives Anielski, Baker, Dovilla 

Honoring the late Perry B. Jackson as a member of the James A. Garfield Hall of Fame Class of 2012.
       WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio extend posthumous recognition to the Honorable Perry B. Jackson as an inductee of the 2012 James A. Garfield Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County; and

       WHEREAS,   Perry Jackson helped to guarantee a high level of success for all projects with which he was associated, and he strove to fulfill the myriad goals of the Republican Party in a competent and responsible manner. Indeed, this fine distinction honors his legacy and his exemplary service to the party; and 

       WHEREAS,  Perry Jackson was a civil rights activist and the first African American to be elected a judge in the State of Ohio, serving in the Cleveland Common Pleas and Municipal courts, and he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives and the Cleveland City Council, chief police prosecutor for the City of Cleveland, and a special counsel to the Ohio Attorney General. In addition, he was involved in many civic organizations, including St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Improved Benevolent Order of Elks of the World, the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite, Eureka Lodge 52 of the Free and Accepted Masons, Big Brothers, the Boy Scouts of America, Ohio Boys Town, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the Phyllis Wheatley and Western Reserve Early Settlers associations, the NAACP, and the Urban League, and he is worthy of emulation for his many efforts; and

       WHEREAS,  Whether occupying center stage or working diligently in the wings, Perry Jackson always made his dynamic, supportive presence felt. This accolade is a justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection not only on him but also on his family and his community, and we commend him on his tremendous work; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, pay tribute to the late Perry B. Jackson on his record of service and salute the memory of this remarkable man; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the family of the Honorable Perry B. Jackson.
