H. R. No. 81  As Adopted by the House

A RESOLUTION

Representatives Antonio, Boyd, Clyde, Driehaus, Fedor, Fende, Garland, Heard, Phillips, Pillich, Reece, Williams

Recognizing Women's History Month in Ohio, March 2011.
WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize March 2011 as Women's History Month in Ohio; and

WHEREAS,  In California in 1978, the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women initiated a Women's History Week celebration, focused around March 8 as International Women's Day, to raise awareness of the role of women in history. By 1981, the United States Congress officially declared the week of March 8 as National Women's History Week and, in 1987, designated March as National Women's History Month; and

WHEREAS,  American women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made historic contributions to the growth and strength of our nation in countless ways. They have been leaders at the forefront of every major progressive social change, not only in securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity but also in the abolitionist, emancipation, industrial labor, civil rights, and peace movements, which have striven to create a more fair and just society for all. Despite these contributions, the role of women in our country's heritage has been consistently overlooked and undervalued during the study of American history; and

WHEREAS,  While enormous progress has been made, there is still much work to be done before women achieve true parity. Women's History Month offers a unique opportunity to reflect on women's accomplishments of the past and to look with optimism to the future; therefore be it

RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize March 2011 as Women's History Month in Ohio; and be it further

RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio.
