Recognizing National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2011.
       WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize May 6-12, 2011, as National Nurses Week; and

       WHEREAS,  National Nurses Week is celebrated each year from May 6, National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, and it provides an opportunity to acknowledge the vital contributions registered nurses have made in effectively meeting the health care needs of American citizens in numerous settings, including emergency rooms, school clinics, and homeless shelters. As staff nurses, educators, nurse practitioners, and researchers, they seek to provide cost-effective, safe, and quality care for all; and 

       WHEREAS,  With nearly 3.1 million registered nurses in the United States, it has become the nation's largest health care profession, and their skill, sensitivity, and compassion has a positive impact on the lives of many. However, with an aging American population, the expansion of life-sustaining technology, and the growth of home health care services, the demand for registered nurses is ever-expanding; and

       WHEREAS,  On the occasion of National Nurses Week, it is fitting that we recognize and affirm the value of registered nurses for their unwavering commitment to quality health care. We are certain that these fine individuals will continue their devotion to professional excellence long into the future; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, celebrate National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2011, and urge all residents to recognize and support registered nurses; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Ohio Nurses Association and to the news media of Ohio.
