Honoring the Governor's Thirty-first Annual Holocaust Commemoration,May 4, 2011.
       WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio recognize the Governor's Thirty-first Annual Holocaust Commemoration, May 4, 2011; and

       WHEREAS,  The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of more than six million Jews and others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. The Governor's Thirty-first Annual Holocaust Commemoration, observed on May 4, 2011, is a fitting time to pay tribute to the memories of victims of the Holocaust; and 

       WHEREAS,  America and the State of Ohio have remained strong through citizens' dedication to the standards of democracy, including an unwavering devotion to human rights. This annual commemoration challenges us to move beyond remembrance to apply the lessons learned from the Holocaust to today's world, reflecting on the atrocities committed by the Nazi party and strengthening our resolve to guard against such tyranny in the future; and

       WHEREAS,  As we observe the commemoration, we make a commitment to strive always to overcome prejudice and inhumanity through education, vigilance, tolerance, and dedication to equal justice for all. It is imperative that we honor the memories of victims of genocide, and in so doing, take action to reject the underlying prejudices that led to the Holocaust; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize the Governor's Thirty-first Annual Holocaust Commemoration, May 4, 2011, and urge all Ohioans to participate in this solemn observance; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Governor's Office, the Ohio Jewish Communities Government Affairs Committee, and to the news media of Ohio.
