A RESOLUTION | Honoring Hayden Starcher for heroism. |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to Hayden Starcher on his exemplary display of bravery; and |
| WHEREAS, Hayden Starcher is, indeed, deserving of high praise, for he has combined humanitarianism with selfless initiative to become a respected member of the community. While working as a first mate on a chartered fishing boat out of Ashtabula Harbor in late June 2012, he was alerted by radio to help rescue three elderly passengers who were stranded in the water nearby. Upon his arrival, he found that two of the men had already been rescued, but one man was still struggling to stay afloat in the water. Without regard for his own safety, he dove into the water and swam to assist the distressed individual, pulling him to safety and staying with him until the U.S. Coast Guard arrived; and |
| WHEREAS, Without a doubt, Hayden Starcher prevented a tragedy from occurring, and his efforts saved a life. He has clearly shown the potential of each person to make a difference in the life of another; and |
| WHEREAS, Hayden Starcher has set an example of concerned and responsible citizenship that is worthy of emulation, and he has been an inspiration to many. His unselfish behavior serves as a reminder that displaying compassion for others is not a thing of the past but is instead a value that is demonstrated daily by individuals such as he; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Hayden Starcher for tremendous kindness and salute him as one of Ohio's finest citizens; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Hayden Starcher. |
