A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION | To urge the Congress of the United States and the
President of the United States to pass the Social
Security Caregiver Credit Act of 2014.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE SENATE CONCURRING):
WHEREAS, Caregiving is an essential element of family life
and a vital service for children, the ill, the disabled, and the
elderly; and |
WHEREAS, The average Ohioan will be a caregiver for 4.2
years; and |
WHEREAS, Approximately two-thirds of all caregivers in Ohio
are women; and |
WHEREAS, Caregivers who take time off from paid work to care
for family members are unable to pay into the Social Security
Trust Funds and are unfairly penalized in retirement; and |
WHEREAS, The establishment of a caregiver credit would
bolster economic prospects of unpaid caregivers and provide them
with vital retirement security; and |
WHEREAS, The President and Congress now have the opportunity
to support unpaid caregivers by amending the Social Security Act
to credit individuals serving as caregivers of dependent relatives
for up to five years of such service; now therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 130th General Assembly
of the State of Ohio, on behalf of all citizens of this state,
urge the President of the United States and the Congress of the
United States to pass the Social Security Caregiver Credit Act of
2014, H.R. 5024 of the 113th Congress; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the
President of the United States, the President Pro Tempore and
Secretary of the United States Senate, the Speaker and Clerk of
the United States House of Representatives, each member of the
Ohio Congressional delegation, and the news media of Ohio. |
