A RESOLUTION
To request the Congress of the United States to authorize appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year 2013 and later fiscal years.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States enacted the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, Public Law No. 106-386, Division A, for the purpose of combating trafficking in persons, a contemporary manifestation of slavery whose victims are predominantly women and children, to ensure just and effective punishment of traffickers, and to protect their victims; and

WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States did not authorize appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, Public Law No. 106-386, Division A, as amended, for fiscal year 2012 and has not yet authorized appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year 2013 and later fiscal years; and

WHEREAS, The continuation of the combat against trafficking in persons and ensuring the just and effective punishment of traffickers and the protection of their victims is dependent on the Congress of the United States authorizing appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year 2013 and later fiscal years; and

WHEREAS, Attorneys General from across the United States have urged Congress to enact legislation that authorizes appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000; and

WHEREAS, This legislative body can work in a spirit of cooperation with the efforts of Ohio's Attorney General; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the Ohio House of Representatives requests the Congress of the United States to enact legislation that authorizes appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year 2013 and later fiscal years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore and Secretary of the United States Senate.
