A RESOLUTION | To request the Congress of the United States to
authorize appropriations for the Trafficking
Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year
2013 and later fiscal years.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States enacted the
Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, Public Law No.
106-386, Division A, for the purpose of combating trafficking in
persons, a contemporary manifestation of slavery whose victims are
predominantly women and children, to ensure just and effective
punishment of traffickers, and to protect their victims; and |
WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States did not authorize
appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000,
Public Law No. 106-386, Division A, as amended, for fiscal year
2012 and has not yet authorized appropriations for the Trafficking
Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year 2013 and later
fiscal years; and |
WHEREAS, The continuation of the combat against trafficking
in persons and ensuring the just and effective punishment of
traffickers and the protection of their victims is dependent on
the Congress of the United States authorizing appropriations for
the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year
2013 and later fiscal years; and |
WHEREAS, Attorneys General from across the United States have
urged Congress to enact legislation that authorizes appropriations
for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000; and |
WHEREAS, This legislative body can work in a spirit of
cooperation with the efforts of Ohio's Attorney General; now
therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That the Ohio House of Representatives requests the
Congress of the United States to enact legislation that authorizes
appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000
for fiscal year 2013 and later fiscal years; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this
resolution to the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House of
Representatives and the President Pro Tempore and Secretary of the
United States Senate. |
