A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Battle of Fort Stephenson on its Two Hundredth Anniversary.

WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize the Battle of Fort Stephenson on its Two Hundredth Anniversary; and

WHEREAS,  Recognition of this historical event is, indeed, a fitting tribute to the memory of the soldiers involved in the Battle of Fort Stephenson, for they combined tremendous strength and resolve with a high degree of bravery to distinguish themselves as a truly patriotic group of men. During the War of 1812, American forces, under the command of Major George Croghan, engaged British and Native American forces in battle on August 2, 1813, holding them off until they were forced to retreat and making Croghan a national hero; and

WHEREAS,  The heroic traditions of our armed forces are an important part of our American heritage. The successful completion of the Battle of Fort Stephenson resulted in the end of British attacks on forts in Northwest Ohio and contributed to the long-lasting peace among the United States, Canada, and Great Britain; and

WHEREAS,  The spirit of our nation is founded upon, and reflected in, its exciting past, and the memorializing of significant events and landmarks is vital to the preservation of America's heritage. All those involved with the commemoration of the Battle of Fort Stephenson are to be applauded for their tremendous efforts to ensure that the important details of our past are transmitted to succeeding generations for their reflection and appreciation; therefore be it

RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize the Battle of Fort Stephenson on its Two Hundredth Anniversary and salute the memory of all those who sacrificed their lives during this epic encounter; and be it further

RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Fort Stephenson Bicentennial Commission.
