A RESOLUTION | Recognizing the problem of malnutrition and its
impact on health outcomes.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, A significant percentage of hospital patients are
malnourished upon admission; and |
WHEREAS, Leading health and nutrition experts agree that
nutrition status is a direct measure of patient health; and |
WHEREAS, Good nutrition and good patient health can keep
people healthy and out of institutionalized health care
facilities, thus reducing health care costs; and |
WHEREAS, Scientific research demonstrates that good nutrition
beginning before birth and extending throughout childhood is
critical to healthy growth and development; and |
WHEREAS, Malnutrition is particularly prevalent in vulnerable
populations, such as older adults, hospitalized patients,
minorities, the poor, and children; and |
WHEREAS, Access to nutritious food is critical in restoring
and maintaining lean body mass, which improves clinical outcomes,
reduces health care costs, and keeps people and their communities
healthy; now therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of
Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of the State of
Ohio, in adopting this resolution, recognize the complex problem
of malnutrition and its impact on health outcomes; and be it
further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the
Governor and the news media of Ohio. |
