A RESOLUTION | Recognizing National Hispanic Heritage Month in Ohio, September 15 to October 15, 2014. |
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize September 15 to October 15, 2014, as National Hispanic Heritage Month in Ohio; and |
WHEREAS, In 1968, President Lyndon Baines Johnson enacted legislation creating National Hispanic Heritage Week to recognize the contributions of people of Hispanic and Latino origins to the United States and to celebrate the cultures of Hispanics and Latinos as part of our shared American experience. This was expanded to National Hispanic Heritage Month by President Ronald Reagan in 1988, spanning a thirty-day period from September 15 to October 15 each year; and |
WHEREAS, Ohioans of Hispanic and Latino descent have enriched the lives of all citizens through their contributions to such fields as business, technology, science, education, religion, entertainment, politics, and the arts. In addition, they have proudly served and defended our nation throughout its history by serving in the United States armed forces; and |
WHEREAS, In recognition, appreciation, and respect of the contributions of individuals of Hispanic and Latino descent to the Great State of Ohio and to the United States of America, we are honored to pay tribute to National Hispanic Heritage Month; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize September 15 to October 15, 2014, as National Hispanic Heritage Month in Ohio; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio. |
