A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

To recognize the month of November as Ohio Adoption Month to raise awareness about the need for adoption.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING):

       WHEREAS, Every young person deserves the chance to learn and grow under the care of a loving family; and

       WHEREAS, We celebrate the adoptive families that have given that chance to children and teenagers and stand alongside every child still looking for the warmth and stability of a permanent home; and

       WHEREAS, Over 16,800 children are currently in Ohio's foster care system and 3,782 of them have been freed for adoption and are waiting for a family; and

       WHEREAS, These children will wait in foster care for three and one-half years to be adopted; and

       WHEREAS, 1,166 youth were never adopted and have aged out of foster care without a place to call home; and

       WHEREAS, We must work to give more young people permanent families and promising futures and encourage our friends and neighbors to open their hearts and their homes to children in need; now therefore be it

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 130th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, recognize the month of November as Ohio Adoption Month to offer a sense of hope to children waiting for adoptive parents and to encourage Ohioans to answer the call to find a permanent and caring family for every child in need; and be it further

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the news media of Ohio.
