A RESOLUTION | Recognizing American Red Cross Month, March 2014. |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize March 2014 as American Red Cross Month; and |
| WHEREAS, Established in 1881 by Clara Barton, the American Red Cross was created to aid the United States in meeting its treaty obligations under the Geneva Conventions, and its mission has been to give aid to victims of disasters and to assist people in preventing, planning for, and responding to emergencies. To acknowledge these efforts, Red Cross Month has been proclaimed each year in March since the U.S. Congress first declared it in 1943, and since 1987, it has been observed as American Red Cross Month through annual commemorative legislation; and |
| WHEREAS, American Red Cross Month is a fitting time to pay tribute to everyday heroes who assist those in need, including our heroes in the State of Ohio. American Red Cross heroes are on the front lines every day, giving blood, teaching or taking life-saving courses, offering financial donations, supporting military personnel and their families, and responding to emergencies and disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, and fires; and |
| WHEREAS, When injured service members are hospitalized far from home, the American Red Cross offers comfort. When hospital patients need blood, American Red Cross donors help them. When lifeguards save drowning swimmers or ordinary people assist heart attack victims, the American Red Cross is there as well. We dedicate the month of March to all those who support the American Red Cross and its mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in times of emergency; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize American Red Cross Month, March 2014; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the American Red Cross of Central and Southeast Ohio and to the news media of Ohio. |
