A RESOLUTION | Recognizing March 2013 as American Red Cross Month. |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize American Red Cross Month, March 2013; and |
| WHEREAS, In an effort to acknowledge and support the ongoing contributions of the American Red Cross, the month of March was first designated by the U.S. Congress as Red Cross Month in 1943, and it was then issued as American Red Cross Month in 1987, with commemorative legislation passed each year since. A national corporation organized to help the United States fulfill its treaty obligations under the Geneva Conventions, the American Red Cross has successfully served its mission to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies since its founding by Clara Barton in 1881; and |
| WHEREAS, In our communities, the American Red Cross meets the needs of individuals and families affected by personal emergencies and disasters. It also provides contact with deployed loved ones for military families, offers public education in safety, first aid, and communicable diseases, tests to ensure the availability of the safest possible blood and blood products, and disseminates disaster preparedness information, all of which saves untold numbers of lives; and |
| WHEREAS, The American Red Cross is always there, under the same trusted symbol, serving our communities and touching lives through its lifesaving information and training and its disaster relief services. We encourage all Ohioans to recognize and participate in this important observance; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize March 2013 as American Red Cross Month; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the American Red Cross of Licking County and the news media of Ohio. |
