A RESOLUTION | To urge the United States Department of Commerce to
utilize all available resources to prevent dumping
and the subsidization of imported glass products
in the United States finished glass market.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, In 2013, glassware imports into the United States
exceeded exports by as much as $1.6 billion; and |
WHEREAS, Foreign glass manufacturers are subsidizing glass
imports and are selling imports in the United States at a lower
price than normally charged in the foreign manufacturer's home
country, a practice known as "dumping"; and |
WHEREAS, Between 2004 and 2008, Chinese glass manufacturers
received approximately $30.3 billion in subsidies; and |
WHEREAS, These unfair trade practices create an uneven
playing field for United States glass manufacturers; and |
WHEREAS, The United States government must take action to
protect the jobs and livelihood of our domestic glass
manufacturers and workers; now therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th
General Assembly of the State of Ohio urge the United States
Department of Commerce to conduct a thorough investigation into
unfair trade practices of foreign glass manufacturers and to
utilize all available resources to prevent dumping and the
subsidization of imported glass products in the United States
finished glass market; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly
authenticated copies of this resolution to the Secretary of
Commerce of the United States, to the President of the United
States, to the President Pro Tempore and Speaker of the United
States Senate, to the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House
of Representatives, to the members of the Ohio Congressional
delegation, and to the news media of Ohio. |
