A BILL
To enact section 5533.241 of the Revised Code to designate Interstate Route 75 as the "Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway" and to require the Director of Transportation, when possible, to erect markers along the highway.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That section 5533.241 of the Revised Code be enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 5533.241. (A) In addition to the designation in section 5533.24 of the Revised Code, the road known as interstate route seventy-five, running in a southerly direction from the city of Toledo in Lucas county, through the counties of Wood, Hancock, Allen, Auglaize, Shelby, Miami, Montgomery, and Warren to the city of Cincinnati in Hamilton county, also shall be known as the "Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway."
(B) To the extent possible while conforming with applicable federal signage guidelines and standards, the director of transportation shall erect suitable white markers with blue lettering upon such highway that do the following:
(1) Indicate the name of the highway;
(2) Are located near Toledo, Lima, Dayton, and Cincinnati;
(3) Contain the seal of the Pearl Harbor survivors association;
(4) State both "Remember Pearl Harbor - Keep America Alert" and "In memory of the 2,403 Americans killed by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan on December 7, 1941."
(C) The department of transportation may accept private contributions to pay all or part of the costs of manufacturing, erecting, and maintaining the markers. Any private money received by the department for the purposes of this section shall be deposited in the state treasury to the credit of the state highway operating fund or any other fund of the department as determined by the director.
