A BILL

To enact section 149.65 of the Revised Code to establish an online catalog of public data at data.Ohio.gov.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

Section 1. That section 149.65 of the Revised Code be enacted to read as follows:

Sec. 149.65. The director of administrative services shall establish and administer and operate a web site to function as a portal and catalog where public records and data sets of public records, created by state government and other public offices, can be located and accessed by the public online. The web site shall be registered at data.Ohio.gov. The state shall consider participation and affiliation of data.Ohio.gov with data.gov, the official online data catalog of the United States government.

The director of administrative services shall adopt rules under Chapter 119. of the Revised Code that specify policies and procedures for the administration and operation of data.Ohio.gov. The director shall make every effort to ensure that data posted online at data.ohio.gov is open format and machine readable.
