A BILL
To enact section 5.2296 of the Revised Code to designate October 7 as Moses Fleetwood Walker Day.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That section 5.2296 of the Revised Code be enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 5.2296. The seventh day of October shall be designated as "Moses Fleetwood Walker Day" in honor of the Ohioan who was the first African-American major league baseball player under contract.
Section 2. In declaring October 7 "Moses Fleetwood Walker Day," the General Assembly recognizes the contribution that Moses Walker made to the integration of professional athletics. Born in Mount Pleasant, Ohio, on October 7, 1856, Moses Walker played one season with the Toledo Blue Stockings and died in Cleveland in 1924.
