A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION | To honor President Barack Obama and the United States
Armed Forces for the successful operation against
Osama bin Laden on Sunday, May 1, 2011.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING):
WHEREAS, Osama bin Laden founded the global militant Islamic
group al Qaeda and has proclaimed that Islamic militants do not
differentiate between military or civilian targets; and |
WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, the terrorist group al Qaeda
coordinated attacks on the United States; and |
WHEREAS, Nearly 3,000 victims died during the attacks and
more than 6,000 victims were injured; and |
WHEREAS, Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden publicly claimed
responsibility for the attacks; and |
WHEREAS, President Barack Obama, has employed a strategy, and
dedicated considerable United States resources and military
personnel, for the purpose of pursuing al Qaeda "on both sides of
the border" between Afghanistan and Pakistan; and |
WHEREAS, On May 1, 2011, the United States Armed Forces,
carrying out orders from President Barack Obama, attacked Osama
bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, killing him along
with his son and several other al Qaeda operatives; and |
WHEREAS, The death of Osama bin Laden represents the
culmination of nearly ten years of efforts by the United States
Armed Forces to bring Osama bin Laden to justice for the death and
destruction that he and his organization wrought in New York,
Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, and throughout the world; now
therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 129th
General Assembly of the State of Ohio, honor President Barack
Obama and the United States Armed Forces for their successful
mission against Osama bin Laden on Sunday, May 1, 2011; and be it
further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly
authenticated copies of this resolution to the President of the
United States, the Secretary of the Department of Defense, and the
news media of Ohio. |
